From Cluttered Garage to Custom Showroom: A Fairview, TX Total Transformation

A big garage doesn’t solve a storage problem — the right system does. This Fairview homeowner had the square footage. What they were missing was structure, and it showed in every corner of the space.

When Square Footage Isn’t Enough

Walk into most two- or three-car garages in North Texas and you’ll find the same story: a pressure washer parked in the middle of the floor, vacuum attachments stacked against bare drywall, sports gear leaning wherever it fits, and cardboard boxes that have been “temporary” for years.

That was the reality here. The garage had room — plenty of it — but without any dedicated storage, the floor was the only option. Every wall was bare drywall. There wasn’t a hook, a shelf, or a cabinet in sight.

The second space presented a different kind of challenge. A separate closet with an angled, sloped ceiling had effectively been written off. Awkward geometry has a way of doing that — the space existed, but it didn’t function. It had become a dead zone.

The goal wasn’t just to add some shelves and call it done. The homeowner needed a cohesive system across two distinct spaces that would hold up for the long haul.

Designing a System, Not Just Installing Products

This is where the planning matters as much as the product. Garaginization — serving homeowners since 2008 out of Farmers Branch, TX — designed the full layout before a single panel was cut.

The scope covered both the main garage and the closet, and the designer’s notes reflect the level of precision that went into it. Cabinet tops and slatwall panels had to align across every wall run — a spec detail that sounds minor until you see the finished result. The workbench wall was positioned to end exactly 8 to 9 inches short of the right wall to accommodate the existing room layout. Nothing was eyeballed.

That kind of planning is what separates a custom garage storage system from a weekend project.

The Build: What Went In and Where

Signature Series Cabinets in Pewter Frost

The cabinet selection was Signature Series — full-back construction, custom sizing, and the full hardware package. The finish is Pewter Frost with black edge banding and silver bar pulls. Soft-close hinges and drawer glides throughout.

The lineup included tall floor-to-ceiling cabinets, upper wall cabinets, base cabinets with drawers, and a dedicated workbench station. The workbench surface is a Graphite Black countertop — a dark, clean contrast to the Pewter Frost cabinet faces that gives the wall a finished, intentional look.

Floor-to-ceiling garage cabinets do something that mid-height storage can’t: they eliminate the visual clutter of open shelving above and dead space below. Every inch of wall height is working.

PVC Slatwall in Gray — 286 Square Feet of It

The slatwall installation covered 227 square feet in the garage and 59 square feet in the closet — gray PVC panels running wall to wall, bridging the cabinet runs and filling every remaining vertical surface.

In the garage, the slatwall fills the spans between cabinet sections and wraps the window wall, giving the space a continuous, built-in appearance. 8-inch double hooks and 4-inch snap hooks integrate directly into the panels, so gear that used to live on the floor now has a specific, reconfigurable home on the wall.

The closet installation is the detail worth pausing on. Rather than stopping the slatwall at the point where the ceiling begins to slope, the panels were custom-cut to follow the roofline exactly. That kind of fit-to-space work is what turns an awkward architectural feature into a usable storage wall.

Epoxy Floor Coating

The garage floor received a full epoxy flake coating in a gray and charcoal blend. Beyond the aesthetic — and the way a finished floor reflects light across an open space — the coating seals and protects the concrete from the daily wear of a working garage. It’s the foundation that pulls the whole room together visually.

The Result: Two Spaces, One Cohesive System

The garage no longer looks like a storage problem. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry lines two full walls. Slatwall panels bridge the runs and carry the gear that used to crowd the floor. The epoxy surface reflects light across a completely open, clutter-free space.

The closet — once an awkward, underused room — now has a full wall of slatwall cut precisely to its roofline. It’s not a workaround. It’s a solution.

For homeowners in Fairview, TX and across the DFW area who’ve been putting off this kind of project, this job is a useful reference point: the system works across irregular spaces, not just perfect rectangular walls. Custom-cut slatwall, precision cabinet alignment, and a designer who accounts for every existing fixture in the room — that’s what a garage organization project looks like when it’s done right.

The entire system carries a lifetime warranty.

What This Project Solves

“I have a big garage but I still can’t find anything.”
Square footage is only useful when it’s organized. This garage had the room — it needed the structure.

“I don’t know what to do with that weird sloped-ceiling space.”
Custom-cut slatwall followed the roofline exactly. No remodel required. The awkward geometry became the storage wall.

“I want it to look good, not just functional.”
Pewter Frost cabinets, black edge banding, silver pulls, a Graphite Black countertop, and a charcoal epoxy floor. A garage can look as intentional as any room in the house — this one does.
